My Story
My name is Jazmine Ceron. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders and had the privilege of completing my clinical hours with a Speech Language Pathologist here in San Antonio, Texas. I had the opportunity to service bilingual clients (Spanish and English) with mild to severe autism. I had already completed hours in a clinical setting during my senior year in college, however, being in a different professional setting allowed me to further develop my skills by assisting with and conducting assessments of language, voice, and fluency as I obtained my license as a speech-language pathology assistant. In such capacity, I was able to plan, implement, and organize treatment plans as directed by the Speech Language Pathologist. I collected client data to document the client’s progress and organized and designed activities to meet the clients’ needs. I also followed up with client parents to provide status and progress updates. My participation was sought after due to my ability to speak Spanish and English fluently.
Even though I obtained my degree in communication disorders with a background in special education, my post-college employment led me to work with kids and adults with cognitive and behavioral disabilities. After working as a Behavioral Therapist for individuals with cognitive and behavioral disabilities, I decided to change my career path. In such position, I was in charge of improving the quality of life of these special individuals in an attempt to help them become as independent as possible. This work led me to pursue a job as a Special Education Assistant in order to acquire more experience with students with disabilities. Serving as a Special Education Assistant has truly been a blessing. I have worked with students with various disabilities and found such to be very rewarding. I have truly found my calling in life. Currently, my job duties consist of monitoring and recording a student’s progress or behavior to meet student’s needs. I also work closely with the Special Education Teacher to develop a behavioral and instructional plan for student improvement. |
I am passionate about working with children with disabilities and decided to take a leap to make my dream come true and become a Special Education Teacher. I have enrolled in an alternative certification program for teachers that is approved by the state called "ACT" and have now passed my Special Education Examination Ec-12. It has been a dream of mine to teach students with cognitive and behavioral disabilities and believe I am well qualified to do so.
